The migration is going smoothly! I'm moving from an older server that I built using a second-hand case and a SUPERMICRO MBD-C7Z87-O motherboard that I picked up used from Newegg. It’s been running an Intel Core i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz, maxed out with 32GB of RAM. For storage, I had 4 mechanical drives: a mirrored array of 2x2TB and another mirrored array of 2x4TB, with a solid-state SATA drive for the OS running TrueNAS Scale.

I’ve had a great experience with both TrueNAS Core and Scale. While I loved the FreeBSD jails approach in Core for managing services, I ran into some limitations. Switching to Scale's Docker-based setup helped me overcome those.

Now, the new server is up and running with a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz and 96GB of DDR5 memory. For storage, I’ve got a 2TB drive for the OS and local pool, plus 2x2TB M.2 SSDs in a mirrored array as my main storage.

For this build, I’m test-driving Proxmox instead of TrueNAS, and so far, I’m impressed. I’ve become a true Proxmox believer! There’s still a lot to learn, but I feel confident that this setup will handle everything I throw at it.
